Drag Me To Hell – 5/29 – Universal – horror . Directed
by the great Sam Raimi who started his career with immediate cult favorites:
EVIL DEAD, DARKMAN & ARMY OF DARKNESS. He then went on to make
all of the SPIDERMANS, A SIMPLE PLAN, & THE GIFT). This stars Alison
Lohman ( FLICKA, DELIRIOUS), and Justin Long (HE’S JUST NOT THAT
INTO YOU, ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO).
The Hangover – 6/05 – Warner . This all-star comedy team
includes: director Todd Philips (ROAD TRIP, OLD SCHOOL, SCHOOL FOR
SCOUNDRELS) and writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore responsible for all
the laughs in: GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIEND’S PAST, the highly recommended
FOUR CHRISTMASES, and OLD SCHOOL. The trio of stars includes: Bradley
Cooper best known from TV’s - NIP TUCK & ALIAS, Ed Helms
who plays Andy Bernard in THE OFFICE, and the hysterical Belushi like
Zach Galifianakis (WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS, INTO THE WILD).
Away We Go – 6/05 -- Focus Features. Is the latest indie dramedy
from the Big Beach Productions Team ( LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, SUNSHINE
CLEANING, EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED). Starring Maya Rudolph from SNL
and John Krasinski who plays Jim Halpert in THE OFFICE. It’s
directed by Oscar winning Director Sam Mendes ( AMERICAN BEAUTY), and
written by husband and wife team David Eggers and Vendela Vida who
are cult famous novelists living in San Francisco. This is a must see
for all fans of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!

The Taking of Pelham 123 – 6/12 Denzel Washington & John
Travolta --- Sony. This is a re-make of the 1974 classic starring Walter
Matthau, Martin Balsam and Hector Elizondo. It now features John Travolta & Denzel
Washington. The director is no slouch either – Tony Scott (DÉJÀ VU,
DOMINO, TRUE ROMANCE, TOP GUN).
$9.99 – 6/19 – Stop-motion animated – Regent Releasing.
This visually spectacular gem was made in Australia by an Israeli director
Tatia Rosenthal, (NYU Animated Film superstar). It is 5 interwoven
stories scribed by the short story meister Etgar Keret. This is a must
see with voices by Geoffrey Rush (PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN).
Dead Snow – 6/19 IFC Films. Dead Snow is a Norwegian film with
English subtitles. The story involves a ski vacation that turns horrific
for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted
by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies. Winner of numerous international
festival awards.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – 6/24 -- Dreamworks/Paramount.
Sam Witwicky again joins with the Autobots against their sworn enemies,
the Deceptions. Shia LeBouf along with the magnificently gorgeous Megan
Fox. Directed by heavyweight Michael Bay ( ARMAGGEDON, THE ROCK) along
with Steven Speilberg producing.
Whatever Works – 6/19 – Sony. This is the latest from the
Woody Allen factory. Larry David of CURB YOUR ENTHUIASM is at the acting
helm along with Patricia Clarkson ( PIECES OF APRIL, STATION AGENT).
The proto-typical Woody storyline includes an eccentric New Yorker
who abandons his upper-class life to embrace a more carefree existence.
Shortly after, he ends up meeting a young girl from the South and her
family, and no one seems to get along in the entanglements that follow.
My Sister’s Keeper – 6/26 – Warner. After their
daughter is stricken with leukemia, a couple conceives a younger sister
who can provide a donor match, but the family is torn apart when, after
years of medical procedures, the healthy younger sibling sues her parents
for the right to decide how her body is used. A superstar cast includes:
Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin ( LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE), Alec Baldwin,
Jason Patric, Joan Cusack. Directed by: Nick Cassavetes (ALPHA DOG,
THE NOTEBOOK).
The Stoning of Soraya M.—6/26. This is an Iranian film with
English subtitles. Stranded in a remote Iranian village, the maion
character, Sahebjam is approached by Zahra, a woman with a harrowing
tale to tell about her niece, Soraya, and the bloody circumstances
of her death just one day before. Her shocking story exposes the dark
power of mob rule, uncivil law, and the utter lack of human rights
for women under Islamic law.
Public Enemies – 7/01 Christian Bale & Johnny Depp -- Universal— This
is Johnny Depp as the notorious 1930’s bank robber John Dillinger.
The busy Christian Bale co-stars in the Michael Mann (HEAT, MIAMI VICE)
directed period piece. Jane Rosenthal (Robert DeNiro’s partner)
produces.
Bruno – 7/10 [Sacha Baron Cohen] – Universal. Borat (Sasha
Baron Cohen) is back as a gay, Austrian TV reporter who worms his way
into style hot spots. Borat captain Larry Charles is back to direct.
I Love You Beth Cooper 7/10 Fox. A nerdy valedictorian proclaims his
love for the hottest and most popular girl in school - Beth Cooper
- during his graduation speech. Much to his surprise, Beth shows up
at his door that very night and decides to show him the best night
of his life. Hayden Panatierre of BRING IT ON is the attraction. Modern,
classic filmmaker Chris Columbus is responsible for this one. He directed
BICENTENNIAL MAN* a must see, NINE MONTHS, MRS DOUBTFIRE, and the HOME
ALONES.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 7/15 – Warner. This is
the fifth of the series along with the core cast and filmmakers.
(500) Days of Summer – 7/17. This is the latest from the FOX
SEARCHLIGHT Midas touch studio ( LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, JUNO, SLUMDOG
MILLIONAIRE, SIDEWAYS). Starring red hot Joseph Gordon Levitt (STOP
LOSS and BRICK -* both must sees) and Zooey DesChanel ( WEEDS, THE
GO-GETTER* a must see, YES MAN).
The Cove 7/31. This is a magnificent documentary in the vein of EARTH & THE
PLANET EARTH SERIES. The cinematography and story are actually better
- Using state-of-the-art equipment, a group of activists, led by renowned
dolphin trainer Ric O’Barry, infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan
to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a serious threat
to human health
Julie & Julia 8/07 [Meryl Streep]. This is Meryl Streep as the
effusive British, food channel, genre pioneer Julia Child. Another
Oscar nod for Meryl? Co-stars Amy Adams (Oscar winner JUNEBUG & a
must see & DOUBT). Nora Ephron writes and directs. Her credits
include modern classics such as: YOU’VEGOT MAIL, WHEN HARRY MET
SALLY, & SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE,.
I Sell the Dead 8/14. Is an IFC indie whereby body snatchers Arthur
Blake and Willie Grimes have pillaged their last grave. With just five
hours before Arthur follows Willie to the chopping block, he recounts
his life story to Father Francis Duffy. It soon becomes clear that
Blake and Grimes are no ordinary grave robbers. The latest yarn from
great, indie producer Larry Fessenden ( BROKEN FLOWERS, HAPPY ACCIDENTS,
SESSION 9).
Taking Woodstock 8/14 – Ang Lee and James Shamus (who now runs
FOCUS Films) are teaming up again in the tribute to the 40th anniversary.
Ang and James have been responsible for a few of the best Indies of
all time: CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, ICE STORM, and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.
Paper heart 8/14 – is a dramedy starring Michael Cera ( JUNEBUG)
, Charlene Yi (SEMI-PRO, KNOCKED UP , CLOVERFIELD, * PAPERHEART writing
credit) , along with recent comedy ace Seth Rogen (40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN,
SUPERBAD, KNOCKED UP). This is a look at the relationship between two
young actors. Paper Heart follows Charlyne as she embarks on a quest
across America to make a documentary about the one subject she doesn’t
fully understand
Inglorious Basterds 8/21 Brad Pitt – Tarrentino . Quentin Tarantino
directs Brad Pitt in a Nazi-occupied France during World War II, whereby
a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" are
chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping
and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish
teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by
the soldiers
The Boat That Rocked 8/28 Story features Britain 1966
whereby a recently expelled student, has been sent by his mother to
find some direction
in life by visiting his godfather, Quentin (Bill Nighy – HOTT
FUZZ, THE CONSTANT GARDNER). However, Quentin is the boss of Radio
Rock, a pirate radio station in the middle of the North Sea, populated
by an eclectic crew of rock-and-roll deejays. Philip Seymour Hoffman
(DOUBT, OWNING MAHONEY * a must see) plays “The Count” Richard
Curtis, (BRIDGETTE JONES, NOTTING HILL, MR BEAN), directs.
