Closer:
2/7 -TELL THEM WHO YOU ARE

Mark Wexler's cinematic blend of biography and autobiography centered on his relationship with his father, legendary cinematographer and filmmaker Haskell Wexler whose career is a virtual catalogue of 20h century classics including collaborations with world-class filmmakers such as Elia Kazan, Milos Forman, George Lucas, and Francis Ford Coppola. Despite the fact that Mark has directed several documentaries and is an award-winning photojournalist, Haskell challenges his son's every choice about camera placement, lighting, and storytelling. Reminding Mark that he is the star of his movie, he also reveals the "starring" -- and challenging -- role he has played in Mark's life. In the end, filmmaking -- the very thing that separated them when Mark was growing up -- unites father and son. -- © ThinkFilm

1/31- NINAS TRAGEDIES

Birth. Death. Life. Love. Marriage. Divorce. Infatuation. Passion. Joy. Heartbreak. And dancing Hassids! Welcome to the topsy-turvy world of Nina’s Tragedies, a funny and bittersweet coming-of-age tale that won eleven Israeli “Oscars” (including Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay), was the highest grossing film in Israel last year, and the country’s official entry to the Academy Awards. Fourteen-year-old Nadav is hopelessly in love with his beautiful, but emotionally fragile Aunt Nina, who has recently lost her husband and is clueless about her nephew’s affections. Nadav’s also caught between the two worlds of his divorced parents: a high-strung fashionista mother and a devoutly Orthodox father. Unfolding through a series of humorous and touching journal entries in which Nadav reminisces about a turbulent six month period in his family’s history, this masterful, sexy, and surprising film explores the tenuous but fierce connections between lovers, parents, and children.

The very existence of three of them has been hidden from the landlord. One day, the mother leaves behind a little money and a note asking her 12-year-old boy to look after his younger siblings.
